Silence Your Inner Mean Girl

by Jenni Rai, PT, CLT

Today’s Self Care is so simple you’ve likely seen it summed up on a Pinterest post:

When was the last time you told your friend she was fat? Ugly? Not good enough? I’m sure it was never. You are a wonderful friend. You know what to say when your bestie needs a pep talk, or a hug, or just someone to listen.

Today’s Self Care Sunday is a challenge to be your own best friend this week. We all walk around with the world’s best friend inside our hearts, yet we keep her locked up and instead release her evil twin Mean Girl on our most delicate vulnerabilities. This week, when the Mean Girl voice creeps in, shut her down with some compassion. Even if you don’t believe it, and it’s half hearted. Shut her up with something kind. If you are really struggling, bust out the journal and write the kind of advice to yourself you would give to someone else. Fake it to you make it. Eventually, the Mean Girl voice will begin to subside and you’ll find you’re capable of boundless self compassion.
